This round of funding supports early-stage studies that lay the groundwork for impactful, well-informed Nature-based Solution (NbS) projects—helping to create deliverable solutions for Norfolk’s water challenges.

The Norfolk Water Fund (NWF) is a financial mechanism established under the Norfolk Water Strategy Programme (NWSP) to support the development, and delivery, of NbS projects that address water challenges in the region (specifically, at present, the catchments of Ant, Bure, Wensum and Yare).

With thanks to TNC’s Go Fund, NWF is currently accepting applications from those seeking funding to carry out a feasibility study to help design an effective NbS project or to monitor its impact.

Initially our funding was dedicated to the catchments of Ant, Bure, Wensum and Yare. We now are welcoming applications across all catchments of Norfolk.

A successful feasibility study will provide the data and insights needed to maximise the project’s impact on water security (e.g., geophysical and ground investigation surveys) while considering practical constraints (e.g., ecology and archaeology surveys). It could also assess the financial viability of the project to access environmental markets.

In addition, funding is available for monitoring activities, including staff time, equipment, and resources needed to track the effectiveness of NbS interventions over time. To design a robust monitoring plan, please see our best practise guidance on NbS

To apply for funding of up to £15,000, please email nwsp@wre.org.uk to receive the application template.
