Why become a member of WRE?

Becoming a standard member of WRE means you will be a part of our Strategic Advisory Group. This means you will have access to a host of benefits, including:

  • Be involved in the co-creation of our next Regional Water Resources Plan for Eastern England prepared in accordance with the Environment Agency’s National Framework for Water Resources
  • Have opportunities to collaborate with other WRE members from a host of different backgrounds and sectors
  • Be invited to three closed online meetings each year with other WRE members and the WRE team to find out what we’ve been working on and help shape our future priorities
  • Have the ability to inform and influence WRE’s board of directors in key decisions.
  • Standard members have full voting rights alongside board members at our Annual General Meeting each December, where we also reflect on the year and discuss future programmes and plans
  • Associate membership is for non-legally incorporated organisations such as local community groups and catchment partnerships. They can fully participate in WRE meetings and forums but not our AGMs due to their lack of legal status.

Who can become a member?

Any organisation that operates in the WRE area and that uses water or has a stake in sustainable water management is welcome to join.

Some examples of our members include (but are not limited to): environmental NGOs, farmers, industrial users, landowners, water companies, energy companies, local/district/county councils, community organisations, internal drainage boards, water abstractor groups, land agents, colleges and universities, and advisory groups. If you think you could add value, please get in touch!

How much does it cost to be a ‘standard’ member of WRE?

Nothing! WRE membership is completely free, with a liability of just £1. This is only to be paid in the event that WRE is dissolved and for 1 year after as per our ‘Limited by Guarantee’ guideline.

Read the full Articles of Association relating to standard members.

Associate membership is also free, and comes without a requirement to accept the £1 liability.
