We are at an exciting time in water resource management for the WRE region, with the most ambitious plans to maintain a secure supply of water for people and businesses, whilst also protecting and enhancing the environment. Following the direction set by government and regulators, water companies, regional planning groups and wider water users are now planning and building reservoirs, transfers and water recycling schemes to increase water supply across our region.

With the challenges of climate change, population growth and environmental considerations, the scale of water scarcity will increase. To ensure a secure, sustainable and efficient water supply for all water users and the environment, we need to develop new innovative multi-sector solutions ,compared to those that have historically been considered.

Workshop aims

With water companies at the start of their next planning round, this workshop aims to explore both existing and new water resource options across the region.  The workshop will bring together all water users – from agriculture, energy and industry to environmental organisations, IDB’s, water companies and wider to think about new collaborative options for the region.

Are you planning a new reservoir or is there a way of utilising existing unutilised reservoir headroom in a new way?   Can you identify a location where an abstraction could be re-located to be better used or where discharge water could be captured?   Do you have an idea of a way of optimising a system or using technologies to improve efficiency?

This workshop will seek to discover, collate and understand these opportunities across the region, whether it be at a regional, catchment or local level and be the first stage in looking at how these could be used in future plans or implemented in the East.

Get involved

The session will be interactive, looking to you to work with us to explore and identify new option types that could be taken forward to be developed in Water Resource Management Plans, the Regional Plan and locally to you – so please bring your ideas, we want to hear them!
